CARS Award 2014
Dr. Agata Jurkowska-Gomułka (Faculty of Management, University of Warsaw) received the 2014 Award for exceptional publications in the field of competition law or economics of antitrust.
The awarded book, titled 'Public and private enforcement of prohibitions of anticompetitive practices: searching for a model of balanced co-existence', was published in 2013 in CARS's publishing series 'Textbooks and Monographs'. The Award, established by CARS, was sponsored (as in previous years) by one of the biggest Polish banks (PKO Bank Polski).
Other nominees for the 2014 Award were: Zbigniew Jurczyk, 'Cartels in EU competition policy' (Warsaw 2012); Krystyna Kowalik-Bańczyk, Right to defence in EU antitrust proceedings. In a direction of unification of procedural standards in the EU' (Warsaw 2012); Małgorzata Król-Bogomilska 'Combating cartels in antitrust and penal law (Warsaw 2013); Anna Piszcz 'Sanctions in Polish antitrust law' (Białystok 2013).
The Award was handed in by the President of the Board of PKO Bank Polski - Zbigniew Jagiełło, accompanied by the President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection - Adam Jasser members of the CARS Award Committee. A speech on an awarded book was delivered by Prof. Marek Szydło (University of Wroclaw).
The ceremony took place on 9 June 2014 and was followed by a discussion panel 'Protecting consumers on markets of financial services'. The panel was chaired by Dr. Monika Namysłowska (University of Lodz).
